It’s A Matter Of Perspective – by David Perry

We live in a world that wants instant gratification…I Want It Now! We live in a world that is so easily offended…at anything.  Why? Again I go back to II Timothy 3 for the answer:   “But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. 2 For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3 heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, 4 treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 5 having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power.”

As Christ followers, we have been blessed with a worldview that comes from scripture…The Word. Paul’s words to Timothy ring true in the deepest and greatest sense TODAY. Yes, it is frustrating, depressing, angering, sad…but that is why Jesus needs to come back…and we NEED TO BE CHRISTIANS who hold out the TRUTH…the encouraging TRUTH about our HOPE for the present and for the future.  Your family and friends need to know why things are happening and what – WHO – is the answer.  Provide it lovingly and gracefully to them.  Share the Life & Love of Jesus with all.

I titled this week’s column “It’s A Matter of Perspective”. The following insightful article was forwarded to me, author unknown.  It gives a great perspective.

“Imagine for a moment you were born in 1900. When you’re 14, World War One begins, and ends when you’re 18 with a balance of 22 million dead. Shortly after, a global pandemic of the Spanish flu appears killing 50 million people. You are alive and 20 years old. When you’re 29 you survive the global crisis that began with the collapse of the New York Stock Exchange causing inflation unemployment and famine. When you’re 33 Nazis came to power. When you’re 39 World War II begins and ends when your 45, with a balance of 60 million dead. In the holocaust 6 million Jews die. When you’re 50 the Korean War begins. When you’re 60, the Vietnam War begins, and when you’re 75 a child is born in 1985. He thinks his grandparents have no idea how difficult life is, but they survived several wars and catastrophes.

Today we meet all the comforts in the New World amid a new pandemic — people complain because for several weeks they must stay confined to their homes, they have electricity, cell phones, food, hot water, and a roof over their head. You’re not locked up, you’re safe and You should be thankful.”

You all are loved and deeply appreciated.  Hang in there during these times of pandemic that may get worse before it gets better.  I believe the turning point will only come when a vaccine becomes available. Share the Life & Love of Jesus.  He is our only Hope.   David

Todd Hunter adds to this thought with the following:  Come to me. All you who are weary and heavy burdened. Find rest for your soul. (Matt 11:28) In the chaos of today’s world, we all need to hear those words from Jesus. Take a few moments right now to come to Jesus by turning your attention to him. In the quiet of your heart, gently repeat any or all of these four qualities as you address your Master:

Lord, you are gentle—your great strength is guided by selfless love. Lord, you are humble—you assumed a low position of trust in your Father. Lord, your yoke is easy—you want me to walk with you and work with you. Lord, your burden is light—you won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on me.

In what areas of your life do you need to know these things about Jesus right now? Can you place those areas in his hands? Take the next few minutes to cast your cares upon Jesus. Share with him what you are facing and carrying. What are you carrying that is not yours to carry? Where have you been pushing beyond your limits, more concerned with duty, obligation, security or appearances than life in and with Him?
