Overcoming the World

Translation – The Good News Bible

1 John 5:1-5  “Whoever believes that Jesus is the Messiah is a child of God; and whoever loves the father loves his child also.  This is how we know that we love God’s children: it is by loving God and obeying his commands.  For our love for God means that we obey his commands. And his commands are not too hard for us,  because every child of God is able to defeat the world. And we win the victory over the world by means of our faith. Who can defeat the world? Only the person who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.”

†† Pastor’s Corner ††

Pastor David Perry & Jonnie

This past Thursday, June 21, marked the beginning of summer, and was the longest daylight day of the year.  Now the daylight portion of each day begins to get shorter, letting us know that winter and cooler weather is just “around the corner.” As hot as it has been, so early in the year, that’s kind of a refreshing thought. Doesn’t that make your feel cooler?

In today’s pastor’s corner I want to share a couple insightful quotes that hopefully, as you ponder them for your life, will help you love & trust your God (as Father, Son and Spirit) even more.

►“I’ve never told my children, ‘I will only love you if you…’ Neither have I ever told my children, ‘If you do this…, you are no longer my child.’ The truth is, nothing can change the fact that they are my children. And nothing can stop me from loving them. And to think God’s love is so much greater than my own…”  Rick Shallenberger

Satan knows your name but calls you by your sin.
Jesus knows your sin, but calls you by your name.”

Anthony Mullins

All of life now is to be lived as we are led by Christ and filled with the Spirit in the loving presence of Abba. This is the “God-reality” of our existence. The “God-initiative” of our life is that Abba Father loves you and me. Christ is Lord, and he calls the shots—but always in love, looking out for our best interests and caring about our every concern and need. We listen to him and follow him wherever he leads us by his Spirit. There is a direction to our lives now—and it’s in devotion to him, not to our dead-in-Christ passions and lusts.  Linda Rex (GCI Pastor)

► “Steep your life in God-reality, God-initiative, God-provisions. Don’t worry about missing out. You’ll find all your everyday human concerns will be met.” Matthew 6:33 Message Translation

As you go through this coming week, make these 4 quotes part of your daily devotion…and you’ll be blessed.  Pastor David
