Hebrews 12:14

“Make every effort to live

in peace with all men,

and to be holy.

For without holiness,

no one will see the Lord.”

When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them? You have made them a little lower than the angels and crowned them with glory and honor. — Psalm 8:3-5 (NIV)

If you wonder what you are worth, you are worth the son of God giving up his robe of light and putting on human skin for you.

Psalm 27:1, 13-14 (ESV)

The Lord Is My Light and My Salvation.

The Lord is my light and my salvation;

whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

13 I believe that I shall look upon the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living! 14 Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord!

Our Creator would never have made   such lovely days and have given us the deep hearts to enjoy them, above and beyond all thoughts, unless we were meant to be immortal.   —Nathaniel Hawthorne

†† Pastor’s Corner ††

Pastor David Perry & Jonnie

Monday is going to be a unique day across the USA – the day of the solar eclipse. I seem to remember there was some type of solar eclipse back on our farm in Illinois in the early 60’s. All types of devices, then and now, are available for viewing the heavenly wonder.  Beware loved ones, of the chance of damaging your eyes if you don’t use the proper viewing device – one that is certified to protect your eyes.

I have been mildly amused at all the hoopla surrounding this event. Seemingly religious people are all gaga over potential prophetic happenings, saying it is a sign from God for those who have “ears to hear”.  Various other superstition and myths abound over this two-minute astronomical event.

At the Orlando church conference I just attended, I was talking to a friend from southern Wyoming about the eclipse.  He farms, is on the local volunteer fire department and the disaster response team.  He told me that their department and local community was told to prepare for thousands of people who would come to view the solar eclipse.  There could be fires in the arid wheat lands, many people would use this time to party and cause problems, etc.  He said that their local coroner was told to get extra “body bags” because of a superstition that it was a great thing if you died during a solar eclipse. WHAT?!?

Here are some other myths and superstitions that are being discussed and written about on the internet:

[1] Solar eclipses are messages from the gods—good or bad, but mostly bad. Others say it is a message from GOD.

[2] Solar eclipses are a sign of the apocalypse – the beginning of the Biblical Tribulation – a period of 7 years where three quarters of the population will be destroyed.

[3] Sun-eating demons make the sky go dark

[4] Solar eclipses are dangerous to pregnant women and their unborn children

[5] Some tragic world event will accompany the solar eclipse.

Loved ones, keep focused on Jesus! He will return when the time is right. People get off track looking for prophetic signs and wonders in the heavensWe are HIS – We are Safe in HIM.

You are loved – Pastor David
