Just Think
You are Here, Not by Chance

Just Think you are here,
Not by chance but by God’s choosing.
His hand formed you
And made you the person you are.
He compares you to no one else – you are one of a kind.
You lack nothing that His grace can’t give you.
He has allowed you to be here at this time in history
To fulfill His special purpose for this generation.

God comes to us before we go to Him. This is God’s habit. God came to Abraham when there was nothing to come to, just          an old man at a dead end. But that’s God for you. That’s the way God likes to work. He comes to old men and to infants, to sinners and to losers. That’s grace.
–James Van Tholen

Death teaches us not to rush past the things we’ll wish we had more of at the very end of life.

The God Who Never Leaves  by Max Lucado

When I was seven, I ran away from home. I’d had enough of my father’s rules–I could make it on my own, thank you very much! I didn’t go far.  At the end of the alley I remembered I was hungry, so I went back home.

Did my dad know of my insurrection? Fathers usually do. Was I still his son? Apparently so. If you’d asked my father, “Mr. Lucado, your son says he has no need of a father. Do you still consider him your son?” What do you think my dad would have said? I don’t have to guess at his answer.  His commitment to me was greater than my commitment to him. So is God’s! I can count on him to be in my corner no matter how I perform. You can too!

The issue of faith is not so much whether we believe in God, but whether we believe the God we believe in.

We extend our thanks and congratulations to long-time GCI-USA pastor David Perry and his wife Jonnie. David retired last week after 28 years and 8 months of full-time employment with GCI.

Dave, who grew up in Illinois, begin part-time employment with GCI in 1969 while a student at Ambassador College in Big Sandy, TX. Following graduation in 1973, Dave operated his own window cleaning company for several years. Ordained an elder in 1985, Dave was hired by GCI in 1988 to begin working full-time in employed ministry. He started as assistant pastor of the Charleston, SC congregation, then associate pastor in Savannah, GA, then senior pastor in Pasco and Quincy, WA. In 1996 he was transferred to Indianapolis, IN to pastor four congregations. He continued in that pastoral ministry until his recent retirement.

Upon retirement, Dave was replaced as senior pastor of the Indianapolis church by Josh McDonald. Dave will continue as a bi-vocational (volunteer) pastor, serving as the facilitator of GCI’s fellowship groups that meet in Terre Haute, Hope, and Lafayette, IN.

Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. —Galatians 6:9

Weariness is a part of life. Weariness is a part of ministry. Weariness is definitely something that overtakes us when we set our hearts on doing good for others. The wonderful blessing of God, however, is that he will renew us and sustain us and rekindle us. He does it through the encouraging word of a friend. He does it through his presence in us, the Holy Spirit. He does it through songs that lift our hearts. He does it through Scripture and prayer. So while our bodies and spirits may bet weary, let’s not let our hands fall idle. If we will serve with faithfulness, discipline, and integrity, God’s grace will empower us to do what he has called us to do.

Dear Heavenly Father, I confess that I sometimes find myself weary and discouraged in my service to you and to others. Please convict me, dear Father, when I’ve neglected sleep, exercise, or good eating habits and empower me as I seek to correct those problems in my life. Gently humble me in those times when I neglect my spiritual nourishment. I want to actively and effectively serve you, dear Father, all the days of my life. In Jesus’ name I ask this. Amen.

Pastor David Perry & Jonnie

What an exciting time of year to be a Christ Follower.  We are now just 4 weeks away from our celebration of Palm Sunday and 5 weeks away from our Easter/Resurrection Celebration service.  One survey I read says that more people come to Easter services than any other service in the year.  So our privilege is to join Jesus in the ministry He’s already doing…making Himself known to others.

Who do you plan to invite to our Easter celebration?  Are you praying for the Lord to place people’s names on your heart to invite them to see the resurrected Jesus…the Lover & Savior of their lives?

How are you spiritually preparing for Palm Sunday, Good Friday and our Easter/Resurrection Celebration?

As your pastor, I don’t want any of us to just crash-land into this special time of worship and celebration.  The LIFE we have, both physically and spiritually, was given to us through the LOVE, SACRIFICE & LIFE of our Savior Jesus Christ.

To better prepare yourself, I’d suggest you spend some private time before your God, reading the following passages in the Bible, the WORD about the LIVING WORD JESUS.

Matthew 26-28, Mark 14-16, Luke 22-24, John 14-21

As you read through these passages:  talk to God…

Thanking our dear Father for giving Jesus the strength to go through this last week of his physical life.

Praising Jesus for his love for you and for his example of relying on his Father.

Thanking the Holy Spirit for teaching you and showing you the Love & Life that Jesus provided for all who will accept His free gift.

God saved us, not because we have worked hard enough or done enough good deeds, but because   of His love and mercy (Titus 3:5-7).

Our lives are lived out in and by the Spirit, as a grateful response to what Jesus has done, is doing and will do through us.   REJOICE!

You are Loved & Appreciated –    Pastor David
